Design & Development of Rocker-Bogie Mechanism

The project involves the design and fabrication of the Rocker-Bogie Mechanism, which was used in the Curiosity Mars Rover made by NASA. The rover is a six-wheeled vehicle whose wheels are adaptable to any type of terrain. The weight of payload is distributed evenly to the six wheels.

The design consists of the following components

  • Rocker arm

  • Bogie arm

  • Connecting shaft

  • Motor

  • Wheels

The Rocker arm and Bogie arm were made out of Acrylic sheets. The Connecting shaft was made using Stainless steel. A 30RPM DC motor was used to move the vehicle. Check out the SolidWorks model here.
